Celebrities’ reactions to Coronavirus and the quarantine speak out most of our feelings whether negative or positive. Many celebrities made videos to vent their worry and frustration while others made videos that are totally hilarious. Undoubtedly, all of them are careworn because of the current circumstances. Yet, they make remarkable efforts to overcome the negative vibes in which we are all drenched.
Unequivocally, every one of us has his own defense mechanism—it is a mechanism that our brains unconsciously use to avoid any unpleasant feelings. That is why people’s reactions to any situation that stimulates anxiety and discomfort totally differ from one to another. To illustrate, some people may transform their unacceptable feelings or desires into acceptable actions through, for example, drawing to express fear and sadness or playing Karate to express anger. Others may bury these unwanted feelings in their subconscious mind; they usually think that they vanished, but they did not. These feelings that are buried in our subconscious minds are there and will always show up when we are exposed to the slightest triggers, including situations that remind us of the incident, or they may even show up in our dreams. Other people may try to express feelings that are utterly opposite to their true feelings. For example, someone may laugh about something that deeply saddens him. We all have different defense mechanisms that enable us to cope with our anxieties, and so are celebrities.
Many celebrities made videos to express their worries during the quarantine, and some of them even broke down in tears. Yosra El-Lozy, the 34-year-old Egyptian actress, talked about how worried she is about her upcoming baby, and how all of that will affect her pregnancy. Also, Hoda kotb, the co-anchor of the NBC news show Today, could not hold back her tears on air while talking about Coronavirus with an interviewee. She was totally overcome by emotions, and who blames her! Another star who went through a meltdown is the British actress Naomi Watts. She made a video in which she screams but in a hilarious way.
Other celebrities made prominent attempts to reduce the bad effects of the current situation. Egyptian celebrities made a campaign to help poor families to pay the bills for them through nominating one another. Celebrities such as Tamer Hosny, Ahmed Al-Saqa, Ghada Abdulrazeq, Amr Youssef, Mohamed Ramadan, and Mona Zaki participated in this campaign. Also, the American actor Kevid Bacon started a campaign, six degrees campaign, to encourage people to stay home and to stay safe. He asked people to share whom they are staying home for. Other celebrities tried to turn the overriding negativity into something that gives a gleam of hope to everyone, such as Hussein Al Jassmi with his song ‘Benaady’ and Ahmed Saad with his song ‘Azma w Hataady’. Such songs are adorably uplifting and optimistic. Many other celebrities used TikTok to make hilarious videos to ditch boredom during the quarantine, such as Hana Al-Zahid, Dora, and Sharnouby.
Coronavirus and the quarantine drive all of us nuts; yet, we should always bear in mind that we are all in this, and we are going through it together. Whether you choose to deal with it through making funny videos, doing workouts at home, or video calling your friends, always remember to deal with it in a healthy way without panicking and melting down. Most importantly, stay home and stay safe.
